"Vamos a Chiviar el Muerto". Every culture honors the dead in their own unique way. In certain areas of El Salvador, after a loved one is past an event is held in his honor. The men play cards or "naipes" while the women prepare typical meals such as tamales and cafe de maíz. Also, the men take turns telling stories about this person.  This past halloween, Cuzcatlan in partnership with United Salvadoran Leadership held the first Chiviada in benefit of several local NGOs in El Salvador who were trying to bring Christmas joy to underpriviledged youth in El Salvador. The event was a great success as $1,824 was raised for this cause.

West Orange Hispanicamerican Festival. This past September, Cuzcatlan in partnership with United Salvadorian Leadership was asked by the City of West Orange to plan and execute its Hispanicamerican Festival. After weeks of planning, the result was a magnificent event featuring live bands- both local and international. folk dances from various countries such as El Salvador, Panama, Colombia, Uruguay and Mexico and delightful food. It was a fun-filled day for the entire West Orange community to come together and celebrate in learning about Hispanicamerican culture.
